Newbie, I want to root my maxx.

As a neophyte, can someone help me root my razr maxx? Any step by step guides for a newbie?

Hi rob! Here are two guides for rooting. I'm sure you are already but just in case, you have to be on ICS android version 4.0.4 to use the following methods. And if you have not installed the ICS .215 update, I would do that first (which has to be installed stock /before you root).

Ok, I have the .215 update. What's next while the motoral usb updates are downloading?? I feel so alive!

Sorry for the delay, I did install the .215 and rebooted.

NP, I didn't wait, lol! Your system version under about phone should now say 6.16.215...

Now you're ready to root. Make sure you read the preliminaries (installing latest Moto drivers onto your pc, connecting USB through media or camera mode, etc).

It would be best to do a backup and factory data reset first or soon after. It ensures your phone will run smooth as silk.

Yes I have tried that as well. In the about phone tab I see the following: system version 6.16.215, andriod version 4.0.4

Your install of the .215 was definitely successful. For the Razr utility, I'm not sure why the download links are not working. I know that people have used them recently. Try this link:
