New to smartphones

I have an opportunity to receive a free Android phone but want to make sure that I can sync it with my MAC? Will also need to get service for it, Verizion seems to have the best coverage where we live. Any thoughts?

I believe they have no problems working on a Mac. Verizon has the best coverage imo, but AT&T is good where I live too, so it's a toss up.

What phone can you get for free?
