New to Droid Phone - Have some questions

Some Background info.....My husband and I both have BlackBerry Phones with Verizon. We added my 13 yr old daughter to our plan on Monday and she got the Droid X2. We have unlimited data plans but Verizon no longer has this available so she has 2gb available for use each cycle. We are 21 days into our cycle right now, my husband is on Facebook quite a bit with his phone throughout the day, my daughter is in school for 6.5 hours of the day and can not use her phone during this time, but does use it as soon as she is out of school until she goes to bed. My husband has used 0.211gb of data in 21 days, my daughter has used 0.265gb of data since Monday. Here are my questions......

1. On BB, we have to close our apps (Facebook, Twitter, etc) so it doesn't keep using data. I was told by Verizon that this does not need to be done for Droid X2. They said once she goes to another screen the phone stops "pulling" data. Is this correct? If not, how do you "close" the app so it does not pull data?

2. Are there apps that came downloaded on the phone that I should delete that might be pulling data?

3. If her GPS is on, does this pull extra data usage?

4. I am reading up and it seems I can have her phone run off our Wi-Fi connection when she is here at the house. Will this lower the data usage through Verizon?

5. If I set her up to use the Wi-Fi when she is here at home, will she have to change the phone over to the orginal setting to get to Facebook, etc. when she is not at home or will the phone know to change over by itself?

6. Is there anything I should know about this phone that I haven't asked that would cause it to be using so much data (other than it matters on what apps she uses or if she is streaming videos and music)?

Any help anyone can give me on this would be great. She is not home at the moment, but once she is home I would like to work on her phone to stop it from pulling so much data!

Thank you in advance!!!!

OMG...since I posted, just checked her usage online and she is now up to 0.322gb. Is there anyone who can help me out on these questions?

Call Verizon and let them know how concerned you are. From what I've read here it shouldn't be hard to do. Threaten to just cancel the line based on the stress of counting MB's. This is a business and a little of something is better than all of nothing. If the rep won't help, hang up and try the next one. Repeat until you are satisfied.

Remember, they work for you.

I will be going to the store with the phone when she returns from her Father's this weekend, so I will be doing that for sure!! Just wasn't sure if there was something I am missing.

Using wifi will reduce data usage if she is close to the ap for long periods of time.

I'd suggest you go ahead and call now. No need to waste a trip. I am more successful with calling in than reps at the store.

Either way, good luck.

If you are on wifi it does not use data from the verizon plan, you can be on wifi all you want but your data usage should not move unless she is not connected via wifi. Only when on 3g will data be used.

It does not matter what app is used or open, they all will default to whatever connection is being used.

Basically, when you connect to wifi, it takes over 3g or 4g connection.

Gps I believe does not use data although it does have the option to on the d3 im sure the x2 should be the same.

If she is going to be using wifi at home only I suggest an auto on/off app. I use one that turns my wifi on for 30 sec every 30 mins to check and see if im on my wifi connection. It will automatically connect me. It will also help to conserve battery when wifi is not around/connected. the app that i use is called "auto wifi toggle" and on it i use very little of my data.

also, the phone will automatically connect back to 3g(and begin using data) when it loses wifi connection. so you shouldn't have to manually do anything. and remember, different apps use different amounts of data, so thats something else you have to look out for. i do not know how much any social networking apps use or anything like that because i do not use them.

Hope this helps and hope I covered everything.
