new market : app updates

I have new market on both my phone and Android tablet. I can't for the life of me figure out how to tell if an app needs an update. How do you find out? By selecting app by app and seeing if it says update?

Apps needing updates should be at the top of your app list in Market. It used to tell you when updates are available

Hmm okies thanks. Surprised I haven't had any updates, assumed I did and didn't know how to find out with new market.
