New laptop?

Hopefully within the new week or so I'll be purchasing a laptop. Consider myself a half assed tech savvy fella, but any advice on what brands to avoid or what ones are good would be appreciated. Looking to spend under 450. Basically all I'll be doing is surfing the net, downloading music, and netflix.
Thanks on advance.

for that price, I really cant suggest what I use (macbook pro) but I would suggest Toshiba or Asus if you can get a good price on one.

I avoid Dell like I avoid the plague

Agree with Abe.

Toshiba and the lower end Asus will fit your budget. Don't take the low price with low quality though, these are two very solid companies that are finally getting the recognition they deserve. I got a Toshiba Satellite for my mom (forgot which one) about a year ago and it's still running strong. She doesn't do much except for email, light surfing on internet, and playing mahjongg. It was like $275 (on sale) when I got it.

Nice. Toshiba makes great laptops. They last pretty long too and they really don't put too much bloatware either.

Toshiba and asus are great brands as well as lenovo. I have an hp and its great except it gets way too hot if you do anything strenuous, on netflix it runs around 205

I got my Toshiba Satellite with Intel i5, 6 gigs of ram, USB 3.0 , HDMI out, mifi, light up LED keyboard, etc for $425. I love it.

They were sold out so I had to buy a display unit... but there's nothing wrong with it. And I got a pretty good discount for it

Even if you didn't get a display unit, Toshiba's are very good deals. They could have the same specs as say a Dell or HP and would still be a hundred dollars or so cheaper. Nothing wrong with display units either, just be sure to give it a good wipe down.....
