Network Mode Help

Hi All
I noticed my Verizone Note 2 was set to "global" network mode. Since I live in an lte market (NY) I changed it to lte/cdma. After doing so I didnt notice my app downloads downloading any faster. While in the subway I kept getting a prompt saying network unavailable and do I want to change to global network. After saying no it would prompt me about every 5 minutes till I got so annoyed I changed it back to global network.
My question is do I have to keep the network set to global? If I do do I lose lte functionality?

The short answers are no and no.

As for why it prompted you to change back to Global, I haven't seen that on my phones. Perhaps it's only that way with Jelly Bean, or perhaps it's a Samsung thing?
