Need to unroot RAZR, please assist!

I received a Droid RAZR as a prize from a contest a while ago. It came already rooted, something which I did not even realize for a long time (I have no experience in this stuff). I need to unroot this so that I can finally get ICS on it and clear up some issues I have with the phone dropping data connection randomly and frequently.

The phone is on system version 6.11.77.XT912, running Android 2.3.5. I cannot figure out how to do anything to this without bricking it, I keep coming across contradictory statements. I have no idea how it was originally rooted, so that restricts me from trying some options I have found... My brother told me I should just be able to use this 12/24/12 Update x912 - xda-developers on my phone and it would unroot it and install ICS, but now I'm not so sure on that either.

Any assistance on this would be greatly appreciated, as I have gone back and forth on trying to figure it out myself and have never tried anything yet for fear of ruining the phone completely. Thanks for helping a poor inexperienced lost soul on the forum ;)

So when you go to update your phone in about phone it says "up to date"? My phone was rooted and ics was pushed to my phone. I never realized it was rooted prior to me purchasing it. Killed my phone when I hit update now. Ended up doing a fdr.. Do you have a Google email account and is it active on the phone? If not, make sure to do that. Another possibility is force it from the Motorola website. Last resort is to do an fdr...and then go into"about phone" again.. Post back and let us know if it were resolved.

Yeah, I try to do the update under Settings and it just tells me "up to date". I tried forcing that update from the sdcard from the link I posted, only gave me an error. Some Error status 7.... My Google email account is active on the phone definitely. How can I force the update from the Motorola website? I tried a factory reset once before and all it did was erase all my data, was still rooted...

You are on the previous software called gingerbread or GB. You need to be on Ice cream sandwich or ICS to use the above link. That is why you are getting the error. My guess is the previous owner removed some preloaded apps which is why your phone hasn't updated to ICS. Read the link below. This will get your phone back to stock GB. Then you should get ICS pushed to your phone. Read first and post questions before trying this. I'll try and answer them.
