"My Gallery" turns on wi-fi?

I typically have wi-fi turned off to conserve battery. Whenever i go to "my gallery" a little icon come up saying "turning on wifi". Why does this happen? is there any way to view the pictures in my gallery without turning on wifi?

First there is a setting to auto turn on wifi for apps that need it in Networks. Second you probably have your gallery set to display your friends social media galleries which is why it is doing that.
