multiple phones with same IP?

another forum that i post on has a function that lets you see what other handles have used an IP that the poster has used. so, i noticed that another handle popped up under users who have posted with my phone’s IP and i havent used the wi-fi at all yet. how is that possible?

Two ways this can happen.

1) The forum software messed up and got the IP's wrong.
2) IP's are handed out to devices temporarily. So you get an IP when you connect, when you are done it gets released for someone else to use. So that poster used that ip, released it and then you got it from VZ. I must say though it is an amazing coincidence that both of you were posting on the same forum. I think option one above is more likely. On a related note, I would not post on a forum that made IP addresses available to everyone.

haha i guess i didnt really clarify. it doesnt post your IP, it just shows who else posted from whatever IPs youve used.

i didnt know thats how IPs worked on mobile connections though. thats interesting

Well, it depends. You mentioned WiFi so maybe I misunderstood. That is certainly how Wifi would work. Now, if you are using your 4G/3G it is different...you are being NAT'd......you don't have an IP on the phone. You would be behind an IP that the carrier is using to connect to the internet. And THAT is probably how you found your duplication.
