Modifying D3

I started off with the original droid and had wanted to modify it, but was afraid of bricking it due to not knowing enough around programming and how to install/run different mods. I have recently upgraded to the droid 3 and want to get rid of just about every app that came preloaded on it. The only rom that I have found for it so far is the Steel Droid v3.1 Gingerbread released by Chevycam94. Are there any others out yet? I have been trying to do as much research on this website and others to try to better understand what I need to about altering my phone without bricking it. Is there any way to unbrick a phone or not? Is there any way to uninstall the preloaded programs that I don't want without installing a new rom? Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me.

You don't need to install a whole new ROM if all you want to do is get rid of the bloat. Just root the phone and get an app that freezes stuff. I like jrummy's App Manager. Just freeze the apps you don't want. I would NOT recommend uninstalling anything unless you want trouble down the road...

What is freezing? Is there any way to freeze apps without rooting my phone? As of right now I have only figured out one way of rooting my phone that requires adb shell. I grew up with using windblows, but got too fed up with how many times my system crashed and switched to mac. I would have preferred to switch over to a unix or linux system, but wasn't big on programming at that point in my life. Needless to say I have not been able to find a program that is similar to ADB for mac.

If you go to the hacking section for the Droid 3 there are numerous threads discussing it. Basically, you're nullifying an app without removing it. The problem has been that some of the stock apps are tied into the code for the device and there have been performance issues after freezing, which is why you need to be careful. The Root section will tell you how to Root your device, and you can then use the Steel Droid ROM, which addresses the app problem in itself. For more detail, check out XDA developers forum for the Droid 3, rooting, it's very detailed. Looks complicated, but it's really not that hard.
