Messaging turns on the display-Droid 2 Global

Sometimes when I recieve a message with the stock app it turns my display on but there are no images on the screen. I can see some backlighting around the edge but the rest remains black. When I hit the unlock button it doesnt do anything the first time and the second time the display will turn on. It will be noticeably slower than what it would normally be.

I was wondering if anyone had any idea as to what might be causing this? I didnt notice this behavior when it was the stock rom and not fission rom. I do have launcherpro running over it though...Not sure if that helps.
