with all of my other android devices, i could always edit my contact's name to match their facebook name and the device would merge the 2 automatically. the bionic isn't. is there anyway i can manually merge them?

It's a bit more complicated now. First long press on the contact & click Edit Contact. Then hit the menu button on the phone & you'll see a selection named Join. Use that & follow the screen prompts. They made it much more challenging to merge contacts with the new MotoBlur...
thats weird but it works like a charm. thanks for the perfect instructions. i got them all merged. now why in the world would only one of my Fb contacts not sync the picture? i uninstalled and reinstalled the Fb app and it still wont sync it.
