media volume locked

I have a new galaxy s3 and I have a recurring sound problem.

Sometimes the volume for music and media locks at Silent and I can't turn it up. I've tried the button and going into settings. All other sounds work and I can adjust the volume with no problems.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

What does the slider do if you hit volume up, then select the cog wheel and try to slide the media volume there?

In both cases, the slider does not move.

I know this was from almost two months ago, but I just had the same issue today. I restarted the phone twice and it came back on. Not the ideal solution, but I have media sound again.
