maps navigation disappeared after froyo/root?

I somehow managed to root my Eris without bricking it (go me!) and used KaosFroyo v39, did all this sometime last week. I noticed the separate navigation app that showed up, didn't much like it and deleted it, preferring to use navigation straight from google maps. I then opened google maps and realized the navigation feature was gone. I have been using navigation on my phone through maps for probably 6-8 months prior to this. SOOO long story short I cannot use navigation through Google any more, it simply isn't there. I've uninstalled maps and reinstalled with no luck. What do I need to do to get navigation back? I just moved 2000 miles and use this almost daily. I would really appreciate any and all help/tips! :)

try re-wiping and reflashing froyo v39 (i preferred v37, seemed more stable to me, and everything worked well (camera and gps), or just flash the new version of gingerbread (gsb 2.0, unless there is a newer version out)....
