Maps is running all of the time

How do I turn off the maps from running on my phone when its not in use. I have already turned off GPS and installed a task manager. The task manager doesn't register maps running but my battery use log shows that maps is accounting for over 80% of my battery use. Any suggestions?

Uninstall the map update and reboot. I had the same problem.
