This article is authored by nq security which is a smart phone anti-virus app that you can install on your phone. This may be nq's attempt at scaring people into installing their app.

Somewhere I recently read on a forum an article where the android os was the most susceptible to being hacked... more so than apple and window phones so it caused me to rethink the idea of having anti -virus protection. I wish I could find the thread now. If I remember correctly, posters highly recommended avast. I think I may install that now.

I used it on my computer and I liked it. It's totally free and it has a lost phone feature included. I know there aren't that many viruses out for Android but there is plenty of spyware and malware and that's enough to get me to use it. I'm careful about what I download and from where but this is there as a backup in case I miss something.

Many times these types of programs that are running in the background really make smartphones lag. I think I'm going to pass for now.

I have been running Kaspersky on my moto maxx and haven't noticed any lag

I use to run lookout on my og droid but stopped because it made the phone almost impossible to use.

The best practice for these programs is to install and run, and delete. These types of programs actually affect how these devices operate negatively.

I do this once a month on ALL of my devices.. works great for me, and it means you get an up to date scan, and don't have to worry about it altering how your device functions

I thought about that. While I was setting up Avast, I set what I could to manually activate but do not know enough about it to know how much it runs in the background. What do you think? Should I still uninstall between manual runs.
