Looks like the Droid put a dent in iPhone sales

The part that got me was when they noted that smart phone sales have gained 26% from last year, but iPhone still managed to drop 2%.

Great stuff! I have to say that up until the Droid, the other smart phones (besides the iPhone) weren't that darned smart so the iPhone was pretty much able to do some open field running. Now that there's competition, life gets interesting.

Not to take away from our Droid, but Android already played on the Sprint and T-Mo networks. A lot of credit must go to Verizon and their marketing campaign for raising awareness of the Android OS, as this explosion in interest certainly coincides with the launch of the Droid. This includes myself, who once had iPhone envy but I can't imagine myself ever switching to it, even though it may be on VZW by this summer.
