Limitations of album art support in 2.2 media player?

Does anyone know anything about the limitations of the album art support in the media player in 2.2?

I got brave and used mediamonkey to pull album art from the internet for the music on my sdcard (and save it to the tags in the files). Everything looked good on the PC, but easily 90% of the art doesn't show up in the media player. Some does but some doesn't. I haven't been able to find any differences yet between files that show the art and files that don’t.

Does anyone else see this behavior? Anyone know if there are limitations still in the support for album art?

I use Album Art Grabber from the Market and download album covers directly to my phone, it works remarkably well...to answer your question, the technology is definitely lacking, hopefully something they will address with the release of GingerBread (Android 2.5)
