I like nickelback.. But they're a victim if their own success.. Everyone loved em.. They were everywhere.. But then they go "worn out" .. So people started saying... Geez... These guys are everywhere.. Let's find something else.. I hope they invested wisely and saved all of these blue m&m's
They used to make substantial music.

Then they "sold out" and started doing nothing but party songs and shallow garbage. Do I still like their sound? Sure. But do I like their lyrics? No.

This is still one of my favorite songs:

But the "let's get drunk and do dirty things" songs are just not good. If they'd still write some tunes like "Leader of Men" and others on that album along with the junk they've put out since then, I'd still give them credit. Silver Side Up with "How you remind me" was their last good album imo as far as actual substance to their songs.

Matter of preference really, but that's how I feel.

I have similar opinions on Staind. They get that little taste of airplay based of a certain type of song and forget about being artists and creating the stuff that caused myself and others to be die-hard fans before they were all over the radio.

I've never liked the term "they sold out". The fact is, EVERY band that's up and coming are doing whatever they can to make it big and sign with a big label. By signing said contract, you lose a little creative control and are forced to appease the people who are cutting the checks. So you've got two options....do as your told to be speaking to a wider audience, thus selling more albums and making more money. Or, ignore your labels suggestions and end up with zero airplay and no money. Every band sells out a little bit, and I would too. You get in the business to make music of course, but you also do it for money. Those who "play by the rules" stick around and continue to be popular (while still making money). Those who don't, you never hear from again, or they jump from band to band in an attempt to regain what they once had because they wouldn't "conform". I'm all about staying true to ones self, but if you intend to make any money in the music business, you've gotta play the game.
I for one would be playing that game like there's no tomorrow!

That's why I put "sold out" in quotes. I get what they've done entirely. I just wish they would've put 1 or 2 tracks on each of their "conform to what's asked of them" albums that still had the kind of substance that made me really enjoy them previously. I would purchase an entire album for one or two songs like that and the others would grow on me.

Instead, I stopped buying their cd's when they stopped creating the music I liked. Sure, they made enough new fans that the few like me who stopped listening don't matter one little bit, but I could be one more supporter.

Of course, I get most of my albums from Google Play All Access anyway, so nobody's making very much money off of my purchases (and I'm fully aware of the breakdown of how much money from the sale of one album the artist actually sees).

So, I use the term "sold out" loosely, because I agree with you about the connotations of the term, but I still use it. "Conformed to the mold' might be a better way to describe it, but it's too long. Haha

So now company's may be required to tell us within 30 days of a data breach.
That's good. I can understand why they wouldn't want people to know that sensitive data has been compromised, but I believe that, if I'm a customer and it's potentially MY sensitive data that's been compromised, I have a right to know ASAP so I can take my own steps to protect what's left.

Yep. Say what you will about Obama. This is still good legislation.

I got a letter from PayPal last week telling me they were sending me a new PayPal debit card because someone I made a purchase with recently had been hacked and they may have my personal information. They are sending me a new card as a precautionary measure.
Such are the times we live in. Ugh!

The correct term is..... They let their producer and label guide them and they stopped being them..... Lol
That one's definitely too long.

I also get that artists change and "mature" as their careers go on. I don't want a band to sound the same as they did when they recorded their EP in a garage after a few professional studio albums, but I'd like for the progression to make more sense in my mind. Haha

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I haven't had an account get hacked or company aside from Sony cause of my ps4 but I had no credit card on it so it didn't really effect me.

But my words are the truth.. Lol... Damn labels... Grrrrrrr.. And producers... And... And... Tequila!! Wait...

The best thing to do is get some cred.. Then make your own studio.. Cut your stuff and have your label push it lol.. My opinion

I'm learning a ton from this guy about how the "business" actually works.. VS just my experience..
