Yesterday the GW9 was "on sale" on the Samsung Shop site for regular retail but a decent trade in of an old watch so I just skipped on by . I was actually eyeballing the Ultra 2 as it was on sale for under $500 plus a decent trade in but the more I thought about it the more I decided I didn't want to chance the uncomfortable feeling I'd get by the end of the day due to it's lack of balance and weird fit between my wrist bones so I'll just wait . But nooooo I couldn't stop Jonesing for a GW8 look alike in black , which is in essence the GW9. After looking at a bunch of after a while reviews I came to the conclusion the GW9 will feel just as forget you're wearing a watch comfortable so back to Samsung Shop I went today and what would you know , $120 off ,$130 for my GW7 (which I only wear a couple times a month due to lack of comfort vs the 8s) so I got the 9 for a price I was willing to pay , the same price I paid for my GW8
It's supposed to be delivered Thursday.
I'll post back if it truly is as comfortable and other findings .

Awesome my friend congratulations on your new purchase and I'm looking forward to seeing some photos of your new watch along with your thoughts

I haven't even received the watch yet and I'm already liking the new AI stuff much more than I thought I would .
At work I use the calculator on my watch at least 30 times a day , usually much more than that , as I pull orders and even a 1.5" screen looks small in direct sunlight to a 62 year old and it dawned on me ...... Ask Gemini instead of opening the calculator. Oh my it is such a godsend. I wear open ear buds so I can hear notifications and stuff from my forklift while I'm away from it and I'm gonna incorporate that into the 9 so I can get audible answers to my numbers queries .
UI 9 also introduces the ability to make phone calls, and other things, over Wi-Fi so 1 reason to stay tethered to my phone or have a watch data plan and LTE watch is no more .
I went through Samsung finance so in essence I am using their money and paying them back over time without any interest charges .
To be honest , this is the first GW since the Gear S that I'm actually excited about because it's going to be so much like my 8 but the color I prefer and 5 years of updates instead of just 4 .

I think you got it figured it out my friend and getting the most out of the watch. Nice when you can get full usage and take advantage of technology, I've had some good buys from Samsung really makes it easy with the trade-in values and zero interest free financing.

Funny (weird not ha ha) that you mention getting the most .
Watch showed up and wouldn't connect to my Note 10 . Dr Google was of NO help to find a solution. After hours of searching I contacted Samsung and it turns out the Watch 9 and Ultra 2 require Android 13 and above 😡. I got so frustrated I asked the guy for an RMA to return the watch . A $10 restocking fee would be charged to me but a refund for the rest would be in the works . I kept looking at how gorgeous the 9 is and you know what ? My Note10+ is over 7 years old , hasn't had a security patch since 2023 and the battery longevity is fading fast . On light usage days it's now using about 60% vs 2 days easily just a year ago . What to do because I have a daughter that just started college , I'm 62 and contemplating the end of my working career so no way am I buying a slap
Flagship and going into a couple of house payments debt over a new phone so off to Best Buy I went and fell in like with a Samsung A17 for under $200 . It's nowhere near the Beast of a phone the Note is/was but for my main usage of web browsing , music player , Health monitor home and a photo here and there is more than meets my need (not want but need) . It's unlocked also so bullstein is I want to leave my carrier and go prepaid . The only true backwards step is the RAM . It's like every phone I've ever had prior to the Note 10+ so the hesitations and hiccups didn't come as a surprise . Android 16 is totally different than 12 . In under a day I've gotten 1 major software update and 4 security patch updates.
Now on to the watch . As much as I like my GW 8 for its super comfort , snappy performance , and gorgeous screen having that same package in a black (graphite) color just just amazing . The sport band that it came with is the most comfortable silicone band I've ever worn . I usually loathe how they feel while I sweat profusely just being alive . I did move it to the GW8 because the Olive looks spectacular on the gun metal gray of it . Wear 7 and Wear 6 are virtually the same thing as far as looks go with a few little additions . All the hoopla they made about Gemini this and Gemini that and the 9 came with Google Assistant onboard and not Gemini. I had to go download it . No Gboard (again) and NFC off by default , unlike it being on by default every other time . The raise to activate the AI ability was on by default and I did discover how to make it work perfectly EVERY time . When you raise to talk go straight to within a couple of inches from your mouth as you twist in 1 quick motion and speak as soon as the glow begins and it'll do what you seek . You've got about 1.5 seconds to start talking once the glow on the screen starts or it goes back to sleep .
Many complain about how long it takes to charge but I tested the online theories that it's the wall wart (power brick) causing the slow charge and not the watch or puck . I have a 25 watt (each) PD (PPS) tower with 3 high speed slots and 6 regular slots so I tried with the new puck AND the puck that came with my Ultra OG a couple of years back and let it charge for 10 minutes with each . It charged just under 1% per minute on both . Virtually the same as my 8s and 7 and Ultra OG did . After testing I put it on at 46% and it said it would take 90 minutes to reach 100% . I checked in 20 minutes and it at 99% . Close enough to see the watch won't take all day like so many complained . I've got the 60 watt PD wall wart that came with my Note 10+ I'm going to use with the puck next charge and see if it's a good match as well .
At 18 hours of very heavy usage it's down to 21% so I'm gonna charge it soon .
If you've got a Watch 8 there's 0 need to upgrade to a 9 but if you do go with a 9 it's a very good choice .

The watch has gone into quick charge mode on its own , charging roughly 3% per minute vs the just over 1% yesterday .

Congratulations on your new upgrade with the phone and I love reading your thoughts and setups. I think the setup is gonna do you well go forward, especially since you always get the best out of both., 💯

After over a week using the watch (and new phone) I can honestly say other than software it's pretty much the Watch 8 . The screens are about the same , performance about the same , feel on my wrist is about the same .
Samsung (or Google) has done a marvelous job of getting more accurate readings from the sensors on the 9 . The user interface has probably updated on just about anyone using a Samsung phone . Perhaps the readings on others have improved with the UI on UI 7 but my 8 and 8 Classic aren't reading any differently than before the update .
Anyway back to the watch , now that it has learned me the battery life is a bit better on the 8 because I don't have raise to wake and open Gemini so therefore I don't have raise to wake enabled . As I'm pulling orders at work and using my calculator it is such a suweet advance not having to tap the tiny keyboard on the calculator then reading the tiny numbers . More times than not I fat finger the equation and have to start over . No more . Raise to within a couple inches of my mouth , speak the equation , eye blink later the watch is telling me the answer and showing up on the screen big enough for me to clearly see it. That alone is worth the price of admission.
There are quite a few bugs in Wear OS7 that need to be addressed , the biggest for me is the random disconnects . Others are having charging issues as well . Chat GPT confirmed the lack of a beta before releasing the 9 and that the 1st beta is just now starting to push out in Korea and the US for the 8 and older . I'm really enjoying the watch and haven't used the 8Classic since getting the 9 other than just test the accuracy of the health trackers.

The watch seems to have settled in and is getting about 35 hours between charges. The Wear app is buggy as crap on the way but not so on the Note10+, suggesting possibly the watch 9 plugin?
There's an app I've not used in quite a while that I tried out this morning called Stream and Watch. It is completely standalone , using WiFi. I watched Terminator 2 this morning.
With the latest security patch to Wear OS 7, Samsung has eliminated the ability to boot into recovery mode. No more cleaning up the cache partition manually.

Another update on the watch.
Samsung pushed the August security patch to the watch and as usual the battery life goes to 💩until after clearing the cache partition. Oh wait.....
I was getting about 30 hours between charges and now under 24. Last night it used over 30% while I slept and that was after turning off all sleep tracking.
I still miss Tizen and battery life measured in days not hours and the hands off approach Samsung had with customization by the owners of the watch.

Hopefully that battery settles in comes back to better numbers, them updates? Sure know how to mess around with us LOL
