Issue with car mount

Hi everyone,

I got the car mount the other day. I have it set up so the phone will be in landscape mode. I noticed the other day while driving that the screen will switch between landscape and portrait. Anyone else have this issue? I also noticed that while using the maps, some times the screen will flicker black and then then the map will come up. I just figured it was the map reloading or something...

as far as your landscape vs. portrait, what does the orientation of your cradle look like? do you have your phone facing you, like a television, or is it more flat or is it angled? can you take a pic?

for the blanking out, both my DROIDs do that. i opened a thread and no one else seemed to notice it except 1 or 2 people. i'm not really sure what the problem is, to be honest.

I have noticed both these issues.

I think the switching from landscape to portrait is due to the G's created while turning/hitting bumps etc, triggering the accelerometer. I have found that it happens more often when I am driving more aggressively. Try the dock at a few different angles, some positions seems to better at dampening.

The map refreshing thing also happens on both of my droids, but not all the time. I figured it had something to do with the quality of the data connection.

it's weird to think that data has anything to do with it. i know that navigation downloads sections at a time, but i was under the impression it was your entire route, in case you lost service.

regardless, it IS still in Beta, so hopefully it'll get better, and soon.

Mine does the same thing because the mount vibrates slightly causing the droid to wiggle left and right. If you have the 2.1 gallery installed, check it out the album view while driving. They will be tilting left and right rapidly because the sensors in the droid are going crazy. I also notice the black flicker, I believe it is related to the phone switching from portrait to landscape. I have kind of just stopped using my car mount due to this issue.

i've never had an issue with the switching. do you guys have your DROIDs cocked sideways or something? i keep mine pretty level with the car because i might use it for video capture.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but data was the only variable that I could think of that would effect performance.

I knew that it cached your maps, but I thought that it might download different size packets depending on connection quality. Like, maybe if you have a slow connection it gives you a smaller chunk of data that has reduced framerates?

But keep in mind, this is just my speculation, I haven't done any real research/testing.

I sometimes have a slight angle to it, but not sideways or anything.

I would imagine driving style/vehicle quality would also be a factor. For me it seems to happen more in our Civic than in our Subaru Forester. The subbie has much better suspension.

I had mine level, but it kept switching so I have been trying different positions. I would bet it has to do with bumps, suspension, I am driving a Jeep, so it is a pretty bumpy ride most of the time.

It does not save all your maps incase the data is lost. it saves the entire route but not the maps. What happens when data is lost in navigation is that the phone goes back to the route page and it says, "data connection lost follow route to reach destination" or something like that. so it may be data refreshing the route when it flickers.

Mine is horizontal and level. It is hard to notice at night and it does not try to flip very often unless you are on a rough road a something. During the day however, the wiggle will cause reflections to flash at you off of the screen. It is horrible. I am considering affixing the front portion of the mount to my dash with some hot glue or something to stop it from vibrating. I am in a Jeep as well so I do experience a rougher ride than most vehicles.
