Is there an app that will give you a notification to a computer?

My dad has some kind of deal where the phone number will display on his tv. You know kind of like when you'll get a notification of a email. Maybe even respond to texts and send and recieve calls over the computer? Man that would be sweet. I have to keep my phone three rooms over from my computer because that is where I almost always only get reception.

Thanks!

PS can someone please change the title so people mean it goes to computer. I typed that in but I guess too many chars.

PSS I use Ubuntu 12.04

An app called PushBullet recently enabled phone/tablet notifications to a computer.

Oops, Ubuntu may have done you in.

Changed your title.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I tried all of them and I couldn't get any to work. Air droid installed, but when I wanted to setup SMS, they said I need 4.4+ and I have 4.1.2. Any way to upgrade the kernal, or know of another program that will work?

It may very well be that the earlier version of Android that you have simply does not support the remote access features required by the apps in order to function. Otherwise the apps wouldn't specify 4.4+.

Depending on your particular phone model and its age there may or may not be an update to bring it to or beyond 4.4. I would check with your cellular carrier or the phone manufacturer. If not your only choice may be to move to a newer phone.

Kernels are typically not edited or modified either as intricately or as frequently as the overlying OS so to find an older kernel that has been modified to give that specific API or APIs required will likely be impossible. Unless your phone manufacturer has released a newer kernel in all likelihood your search will be fruitless.

I'm sure if there is one out there someone here will know it and if so they'll chime in and set me straight. It would certainly help to know exactly what model phone you have, the numerical model number, rather than just the name since there can be several variations of a specific phone model to cover different carriers or as manufactured to cater to a specific market such as a US version for Verizon versus US for T-Mobile, or versus an Asian market cellular service provider.
