Is a computer NEEDED to upgrade to CM11?

My battery is low, and was on a charger all night. Is there a reason it wont charge? Or is it a faulty charger (possible)?

Agreed. Depending on the mode your phone's in it may not be recognizing the fact that it's supposed to be charging.

I've been trying to charge my phone all day, off and on, trying different things on the computer in between with it. I can still get the Red M logo, as well as the droid on his back and Fastboot/recovery menus. I finally believe I can do something with my computer to run RSD Lite and I believe I can actually fix it, but I need to get my phone charging. Can someone give me a tip on how to charge it, i.e., leave it at the Red M, should I leave it at the droid on his back, etc. I read somewhere about a trick with going into the phone's fastboot, then using the volume keys to go back in and hit BP Tools and supposedly I should see the Red M, followed by the battery icon. I do this and I get the Red M, then it disappears, then it reappears, and usually I get the droid on his back. Is it hopeless? I want to leave it plugged in but I want to be sure the screen I keep it on allows it to charge, not just give it the power to light the screen.

I FIXED IT!!

I saw a few mentions of people who've hacked the USB cord and wired it directly to the battery ports inside the phone, so I gave that a shot this morning, and it worked! Cut off the phone end of the USB cord, used only the Red (+) and Black (-) wires, opened up the phone and removed the back and middle plates, then wired the positive wire to the positive terminal, and negative to negative. I let it sit and charge for a little more than an hour, turned it on to see if it was charged, and AP Fastboot showed Battery OK, so I plugged it into the computer, ran RSD Lite (basicly I followed the video posted above) and after an hour-ish of flashing (my computer blows) it came back to life!!

I'm now downloading the new JB Root, since I had rooted it back when I was on ICS. Quick question: If I run CM11 Rom, does the stock ROM run at the same time, bogging down the speed or memory? If so, would my initial thought process (of FDR-ing the stock ROM so CM11 runs better) be correct? Or should I just leave it all running on stock and continue with the CM11 Rom? Also, what is the difference between the launchers in CM11? Initially it makes you choose between two homescreens but they both look identical to me. I didn't have much time to play with it.

The way you fixed it, I knew there was a video out there that described how to do that, never wanted to try that, myself, nor did I want to wish that upon someone else. In terms of CM 10.2/11 and Stock Boot, it's much like running a dual/multi-boot on your computer. Each operating system boots independently and does not take up CPU nor RAM when it is NOT active. So if your machine is a 4-core CPU with 8GB of RAM and a 100GB HDD, you might've chopped your HDD into a 20GB partition for Linux and 80 GB partition for Windows. When you boot into Windows, your HDD is 80 GB, and for Linux, it's 20GB. For both Windows and Linux, they both independently take advantage of your CPU and RAM (video as well). The only time those are shared is when you run one within another (like a VirtualBox or Virtual PC). Running Stock ROM and CM is kinda like running Windows/Linux independently, thus only dividing your storage space and nothing else.

I have the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx xt912 -

You will need a PC but, to return your Maxx to stock, unrooted, you can use a utility called, DROID_RAZR_Utility_Jellybean_XT912. Google it, download it.

See a thread here:

It's pretty easy to make it work returning your phone to unrooted stock, rooting it, then installing Safestrap. I then updated my Safestrap version and went to CM11 in slot 2. (Created slot 2 with default settings.) I use slot 1 for any other ROM I want to dabble with although now that CM11 KitKat, is stable and everything works without issues, it's all I use. I boot to the stock ROM every once in a while just to keep the apps updated.

Creating a slot will eat internal memory but I have 2 slots running plus the stock slot with plenty of available memory and a ton of installed apps.

Love my xt912.
