Innovation vs Public Safety

I'll vote for the bill, too many instances, here in SoCal, of drones with HD cameras checking out our personal space. Pervs out for a thrill at my / your wives or daughters expense. I don't advocate violence, but once they're over my property with camera in tow, bang goes the pigeon.

The fact is, most of these things are so quiet, you'd have to be constantly standing out in the yard looking up to see one, so any "spying" going on could have already taken place and you wouldn't know.
Perhaps it will get to the point where people will be placing video cameras out in the yard pointed up at the sky in order to spy on those spying on you. LOL!

Yes, with an anti-drone shotgun attached...

LOL....As long as you have a silencer on said shotgun. Shooting off firearms in city limits will get you into more trouble than flying a drone over somebody's property. Besides, why are they flying over your property again? We know the Sports Illustrated swimsuit models aren't exactly hanging out at your pad. Bwahahaha! [emoji12]

Wait......or are they???

Have pool, and 20' something daughters with friends..
And yes the silencer works well...
Did you hear that?

UPDATE:

Looks like the government will be requiring drone users to register: FAA to Require Recreational Drone Operators to Register

Before we shout "Big government" I actually somewhat agree with the notion of this. There have been pilot complaining of seeing drones in restricted airspace. Though aircraft like a 747 or 777 will be able to handle a drone, but what about some of these regional or smaller aircraft (ie Cessna). There is enough going on in the cockpit, especially during takeoff and landing, to have to worry about a drone. As a passenger, especially on a plane where the captain declares an emergency because of someone being sick or an equipment failure, I want my crew to focus on getting us on the ground safe and keeping an eye on their approach.

I really do not know how they are going to enforce these restrictions because unless you force someone to register during checkout people can either ignore or forget about it later. I am not ready to put everyone in the same category as I understand that people will treat it like registering a computer or device where they will say they will do it, through the paperwork in the corner, and then forget about it.

I hate to have to admit it, but I agree on this one. And I believe any turbofan that ingests a foreign object could fail. Landing might not be tragic, but during the initial take-off roll and climb it could be catastrophic.

There was a tragic crash caused by all engines ingesting birds not too long ago. It was on take-off and the result was complete loss of power. Birds are softer than drones.

If the Gov't wants this to be effective, they'll have to take this as seriously as they do firearms permits and purchases. Otherwise I agree it'll just be an expensive waste of taxpayer $$.

Very good point. But knowing how efficient (sarcasm) the government is they are going to trip all over themselves trying to figure this out.

They are going to have to figure out how to enforce this, especially with stores. Big stores like a Wal-mart or Best Buy may be able to enforce it at checkout but what about your mom and pops store that see it as a toy and are clueless that along having the resources. Same can be said about online purchases. I mean this is the same government that spent billions of tax dollars and a lot of time only to have a buggy website on release say of the highly publicized healthcare.org.

Yet they will be able to have a registration process in time for the holidays.....yeah toy lobbyists are probably already crying about how this could effect sales and jobs. Unlike what they did with the government healthcare where one party decided to go gong ho (and I know Im tip toeing the no politics line here) they need to actually sit down with the toy industries, FAA, and retail stores and come up with an effective way that will allow for efficiency in purchases as well as getting those drones registered. If not you going to have a mess.

I wonder if the airspace above your home is considered your private property ?

I'm sure we will find out as I am sure shot guns will be going off on drones. And since you can not determine motive I would not blame a person especially if you are concerned about some perv trying to get a peak of your wife or daughter(s).

How are drones any different than rc helicopters and planes, that have been around for decades? From the perspective of safety, not the privacy issues with cameras and stuff...

The government won't b able to control this any more than they do with drugs...
