Increasing video quality on Droid?

OK, I did a quick search and came up with a few topics, but don't feel like navigating through a couple dozen pages and I didn't see this specific question asked, so I figured others would benifit as well.

Is there a way to increase the video quality or download an application that will play videos in better quality than the current crappy resolution? I mean, what's on here now is pathetic and in no way close to what I've seen on iPhones/iPods.

When I say videos I am referring to the videos that come up in news stories on CNN, google, etc...

Thanks!

Some HQ movies in the first post here

The Droid can handle 848x480 / 854x480 video, H264/AVC 1500kbps, 160kbps audio. (specification-wise the same as what the iPhone can handle, except that the iPhone video can not exceed 720x480 in resolution)

The build-in media gallery doesnt show filenames, but there are other video player apps that do. The "Video Player" (free) or Act1 are most commonly used.

Thanks, that's the Thread I was referring to actually. I haven't tried watching movies, but just youtube and videos on some news sites. When I look at an iPhone the video looks like a little TV. When I watch the videos on my droid it looks like a blurry mess.

Guess I'll look into "video player" tonight when I have more time.

Thanks!

I'm not sure about the youtube or other webvideos' but it's probably due to market share. Maybe if someone mods the Droid's browser to tell websites its actually Safari Mobile, it might work better.

I was wrong, the youtube on iPhones stinks too. The video I was watching was a podcast so it was saved onto the phone. It appears as though it's just streaming videos that stink, on both devices.

Well, since the Droid has a resolution of 854x480, It technically can't watch video's in HD. It can only just increase video quality to sort of 480p form. For any video that has support of higher quality video's than standard, just hit menu, more and watch in high quality(HD if available) I don't think that it only applies for youtube. (I could be wrong though)
