In need of desperate help Recovering messages

Been out of the game for a while now. This Google messages and everything seems so separate from the phone. My trash switch is on. Anyone know how to get to it?

What phone are you using with the messages? On my Pixel phone if I delete messages they are gone and not recoverable but if you archived you should be able to see them by hitting the 3 dots settings
