1)find ringtones from some place other than zedge (think it was clicked to do it always by said son who "knows it all but cant figure that out"), how do i change it so i can look other places? I already have a bunch downloaded somewhere on the phone but can't find them..
2) can i customize diff ringtones for messages, calls etc? if so how?

I think FoxKat can help you with this. Ill see if I can find him. He's super smart with these sorts of things, and loves helping a damsel in distress! :)

Well, Mandy. I am the Knight in Shining Armor, on the great White Horse...LOL!

OK, but in this case...I don't know the answers. I don't play around with ringtones, not custom ones, or setting up specific ringtones for messages, callers, etc.

I can do some research and see what I can come up with, but in the meantime, perhaps someone else can come and lend a hand with personal knowledge...

OK.. Welcome....now first.. You need a file explorer or file manager...get a simple and free one...you will find any ringtones, depending on how they're labeled and made either in the music or ringtone folders when you open the file manager...(stupid move moto..either make your moto migrate work...or give us a file app)

Now.. My personal favorite thing is to download mp3's and use ringdroid..its a lot like SAW for any audiofiles out there and ....Make your own ringtones.. I do...

I feel your pain..I just got the ultra maxx today

I still have 100's of pics and 500 songs to move...the laptop way..isn't being kind...idk y

Now, there's no need to cry!

We'll get you there. Soon you'll be showing your son how to do things with the phone that he didn't know. Stick with us!

From the Motorola website (https://motorola-global-portal.cust...77023528/redirect/1/filename/68017543001A.pdf)

That is the link for the entire instructions for the Droid MAXX. Below is the information for ringtones.

thank you all....i'll work on this in the morning when i can think!!! I think i found my new best friends :-D

To clear a program from always opening a certain operation, go to setting > apps > find the app that always performs a certain function, which in this case is zedge > scroll down to launch by default and hit clear default.

Now next time you pick a ring tone it will ask you which program to use, either zedge or media storage. Media storage is maxx's default sounds.

To change sounds for ring tones and messages go to settings > sounds > hit ring tone or scroll down and hit default notification sound to change them. It will ask you which sounds you want to use media storage or zedge. Hit use only once so you try different sounds from different programs.

Also other apps like Gmail, messages will have sound options in their own settings to change their notification sounds.

Awesome, thank you so much 94lt1! I just got my Maxx on Saturday and spent the next 24 hours searching for a way to set a song for the ringtone. Your great answer to bhale got me my solution in less than five minutes! Again, thanks a lot for saving me any further aggravation lol. Love this forum...
