I ROOTED. so far it was worth doing the wipe. so far i have only rooted (not easy root, i used a guide) and installed set cpu.
next i want to learn about kernels, roms, and themes

thanks to this site for all the info.

thanks ill look in to that. any suggestions on roms or kernels i was mostly interested in over clocking for the speed factors.

Welcome to the world of root :)

Love it. played with several roms and kernels seems like so far I like the best Ultimate Droid 1.0 rom but was unable to use my launcher pro plus with facebook so I am stuck with the rom I was using lithium mod 1.0.12 which I seem to like also. Have only paid for a few apps but have been worth it. Paid apps are ultimate juice (for juicedefender), set cpu, and home launcher pro plus. Have had best luck with chevy1 kernels up too 1100mhz, and a few other different ones that I do not have in front of me. I have personally found for me kernels up to 800-900 mhz are ok for one battery, but if running any higher speeds will usually need to keep a battery on you...depending on usage. Found a motorola batter and cheap charger on ebay for less that 15 bucks. Hope this helps!!:blackdroid:

ok i did some searching and found some but not the info i wanted.
what i would like to know is the diffence between kernals and roms

kernels are to be able to overclock (in this sense with android)

and roms are for overall layout of the phone like looks and apps and such..

u need to install a custom kernel to be able to overclock with setcpu
