I am not satisfied

And it is customer service reps like you that give Verizon the bad CS rap it has. For your information, this is not my first smartphone and I have had nothing but problems with the phone since the 2.1 update. I had my Droid running sweet before the update and once the 2.1 came through my Droid's performance has gone down the toilet. I have multiple force closes on stock apps. I have had to delete most of my 3rd party apps due to conflicts. 80% of the time my phone will not unlock so that I can answer a call. Call quality sucks. Phone now reboots whenever it feels like it. Oh yeah and its happening on my husband's Droid as well. I could go on and on about the problems since the 2.1 OTA update. Verizon screwed up the 2.1 update and thus screwed our Droids.

To the ones that are having troubles............ do like me, time to root!!!

OH yeah and I have had my Droid since release date in November.

Uh, has it occurred to you that since almost no one else is reporting such widespread and serious problems that you attribute to the 2.1 update the issues may have something to do with your particular phone (and your husband's)?

Rather than deleting "most of (your) 3rd party apps," wouldn't it make more sense to do a factory reset and start from scratch? Frankly, if that hasn't occurred to you, it doesn't sound like "rooting" is going to resolve your issues.

I have done factory resets on both mine and my husbands. My husband still has a totally stock Droid. He has not downloaded anything. Mine had a lot of 3rd party apps, widgets and themes on it. I got the update in the first 9,000 that came out and initially thought my problems were the apps not playing well with the new OS. So I started getting rid of them. Then a week later when my husband got his update and he started having the same issues I realized it is the update that is creating the problems not the apps. Both of our Droids were purchased new from Verizon (mine about 2 days after release and his was in January) so I am not about to let Verizon give me a refurbished phone for a software problem. Thus I am rooting my phone tonight and will probably do my husbands this weekend.

If you look back through the "If your having issues with the 2.1" thread, you will see some of my early posts. I never had issues with the Droid. Almost immediately after installing the 2.1 OTA update, I started having big problems.

I still totally love my Droid but based on my computer knowledge and what happened to mine and my husbands phone, the problem is the 2.1 OS not the hardware.

Check the white sticker on the back of your phones if you only have a pink one maybe you should put your phone down when you shower :r_c:

pretty sure it's people like you that give humanity the bad rap it has... <-- ok that was to the OP not to you since I thought the OP said the csr thing. ;-p

sorry, bitter exp rep here.

And a very bitter Verizon customer!! Verizon has a problem producing or passing on without alterations, updates that will not screw up a phone. The Droid is the last in a long laundry list of Verizon's update failures. Case in point, not only my experience with this update for the Droid but my daughter has a LG Touch, Verizon push "required" updates to her phone and now her front screen does not work. Took it back into them and all they can say is "oh well, time to upgrade to a new phone".

I have no dog in this fight but since this has gone off on a tangent anyway, I'll ask....

...can someone please briefly explain this "rooting" that has been suggested?

TIA

Well I think the big point of this entire thread is that the majority of people have had no issues with updating to 2.1. I'm not sure it can rightfully be concluded that there's some systemic problem with VZW software updates based on one or two issues...

WIPE YOUR PHONE !!!

  1. With your Motorola Droid still powered "Off," slide open the keyboard.
  2. Press and hold the "X" button on the keyboard while pressing the "Power/Unlock" button, located next to the 3.5mm headphone jack. Continue holding down the buttons until a yellow triangle "Warning Sign" appears on the screen.
  3. Once the yellow warning sign appears, press the physical "Volume UP" and "Camera" buttons simultaneously until a new menu appears. This may take several attempts before success.
  4. From the new menu that appears on-screen, go down to the "wipe data/factory reset" option using the Directional-Pad next to the keyboard, and press the "Center" button on the D-Pad to confirm.
  5. Scroll down to the "Yes -- delete all user data" and press the "Center" button on the D-Pad once more.
  6. From the new menu that appears on-screen, go down to the "wipe cache" option using the Directional-Pad next to the keyboard, and press the "Center" button on the D-Pad to confirm.
  7. Repeat 4-6 twice
  8. That's it! When your Motorola Droid is done wiping all saved applications, information, and settings, your device will be back to the factory settings.

All I can conclude from all this is that Verizon has some sort of vendetta aimed specifically at your family. You seem to be convinced that the problems you're experiencing are somehow associated with the 2.1 update when, as far as I can tell, literally millions of phones were updated without such problems. If venting makes you feel better, go for it, but frankly I don't think there's much that anyone can do to help you.

I am not stupid enough to think that Verizon has it out for me or my family. Nor am I looking for any kind of sympathy or additional help. I simply stated my daughters issue to show the long standing problem I have with Verizon and their customer service. Let us all be honest here, Verizon's customer service pretty much sucks. If most everyone experienced no issues with the 2.1 update then tell me why are there so many posts to the contrary here on DF?? There are a lot of issues with the update. In addition, I have not come across one person who has had a totally positive experience with Verizon CS. I have been with Verizon for a very long time (15 + years) and I can tell you over the years Verizon's track record for updates on various phones has been sub par. We could rehash the list but hey it is what it is. Yes I am venting somewhat but its true.

I have done everything recommended to mine and my husbands phone to see if we could correct the current issues. And nothing worked. Thus I am taking control of my Droid and rooting it. Problem solved.

Do you realize how many DROID's have been sold? And do you realize that mostly the people experiencing problems are the ones who come to this forum for help?

If most everyone experienced no issues with the 2.1 update then tell me why are there so many posts to the contrary here on DF??

Because

a) the vast majority of people using Droids (or any device) don't lurk on message boards
b) the vast majority of people that do lurk on message boards don't post unless they have a problem
c) "so many" is probably less than .01% of the overall number of Droid users in the wild.

I mean glad your problem's solved but it's just false to assume that there's some massive widespread problem due to what people post online.

I've never had a bad experience with the rep I've been using since I got my first cell phone, and I've never had a problem with my Droid. It would be just as wrong for me to assume, based on my personal experiences, that NO ONE has problems w/ their reps or their devices just because I don't though.
