HTC Rep: Thunderbolt Android 2.3 Update Pulled Back, No Estimated Time Frame for Relaunch
On 07.22.11, In News, Rumors, by Kellex
We tend to get a little skeptical when customer services reps start dropping time lines for updates, but since the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) chatter for the Thunderbolt seems to have died down a notch or two lately, we thought we’d share. From the email below that one of our readers received back from an HTC rep, you can see a reference was made to 2.3 and the fact that it is causing some sort of bug which has prompted them to pull it back…
She mentioned that there is “no estimated time frame”, so we’ll just have to try to tell you guys to remain patient. Sorry, folks.
Cheers Shannon!

Dear Shannon xxxxx
I understand how important it is to have the latest update for your device. Unfortunately, it is the latest update to 2.3 that is creating this to happen. HTC has pulled back this update to keep future customers from receiving the update. We are working on getting this update fixed, when the update is relaunched you will receive a notification on your device. Unfortunately, there is no estimated time frame on when this issue will be resolved. Shannon, we do apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number 11USCW30ENA002669.
Sincerely,
Samantha

We had heard that the update to Android 2.3 would be available by the end of Q2 some time ago, but with some unexpected bugs (those pesky reboots) that needed to be addressed immediately, we’re not surprised by this delay. Is it frustrating? Most definitely. But after seeing 3 or 4 different GB builds leak though, you can tell that there is something troubling this update.I understand how important it is to have the latest update for your device.
