HTC One M8 Receiving OTA Update To Android 4.4.3 September 10

Last week we mentioned that the HTC One M7 received an over the air update bringing the device up to Android 4.4.3. This made us wonder when the latest flagship might also receive the same update. According to Moversi, VP of HTC's Product Management, the HTC One M8 will be receiving an OTA udpate on September 10th. This will bring the device up to Android 4.4.3 and will also include the Extreme Power Saving Mode which will help you extend your battery life when the phone reaches critical battery levels. This will more than likely break any root exploits, so unless you are already S-off I would avoid the update until you have at least S-Offed your device, if you want root that is.

I just got the M8 but have yet to activate it. Can I wait till the weekend to activate and get S-off? Or if I wait till after the 10th to activate it will I get the Ota automatically and be unable to root?

Sent from somewhere down the rabbit hole.

Hope this update doesn't cause my M8 the same problem with battery drain as the last one did with the HTC One. My husbands phone won't keep a charge all day anymore and it used to be great. He is NOT a heavy user. Mostly on WiFi too. Whatever the last update was it now stays awake (screen is off). We have tried several suggestions, some work for a short time but it starts up again.

@Sherry I know what you're describing -- had a similar problem on my M7 with an early version of 4.4 but I think 4.4.2 pretty much fixed the drain. In my case, by the way, I traced the problem to the "Phone Radio" which tended to eat a lot of CPU.

In regard to the much-heralded Extreme Power Saving Mode, there's one minor downside, which is:

While in EPS mode, many Android functions are unavailable, including the abilities to remotely lock, wipe or locate your device. To use these Android functions, exit EPS mode.

Of course this makes sense but it's still a kick in the nuts should you happen to misplace your phone, or otherwise rely on a tracking service like Google+ User Locations. But since EPS leaves the phone on you still have the option of calling yourself!
