HTC Droid Eris locked

Hey i jus bought a Droid Eris used, I put the screen lock with the 3X3 grid. I forgot my password for the screen grid & the gmail account was from the previous owner which i cant get a hold of. What are my options? can you tell me how to do it step by step also? thanks

i know i have to modify a file on the sd card, but im trying to get the right info so i don't completely screw it up. Im not entirely sure where to begin...
