How to uninstall 2.1 update 1

I have a droid ally (mistake in buying...phone is garbage). Im trying to use universal androot to root my phone and it keeps giving me the "failed no foo goo" error message. I have a feeling that it is because of this new update and I was told that it works for 2.1 and under. I would like to know how to uninstall this update so that I am able to root, and am open to any suggestions anyone has. Thanks!

Try using z4root instead, [APP] z4root - xda-developers states that it works on the Ally.
