How to remove a shortcut from the home menu

Search through the user documemntation to find the info. Couldn't find any.
Experimented a while then figured to put a shortcut on, the user must hold down the app until it vibrates. Therefore I held down the app icon on the home screen until something happens. Found that a trashcan icon appears on the bottom of the screen. While holding the icon I slid the icon into the trash can. Ergo, it's gone but remains on the apps screendancedroid

Dragging something to the trash can only removes the shortcut from the homescreen - if you would like the icon gone from the app tray then you have to uninstall the application or use a third party launcher that allows for the hiding of icons in the app tray
