How to install sopcast

I wanted to install sopcast, a live streaming viewer similar to veetle and tv ants, but I have no clue how to do this on my first smart phone (droid x).
I've downloaded the zip file and extracted but don't know how to 'run' the setup. Do I need to root my droid first?

Ok, maybe I need to install the linux version, but should I install the command_line version or the gui front end one?

Its a stream viewer called sopcast and since there was no app for it and I'm new to the droid thing I thought I should be able to just install the program since these phones are touted to be open ended and customizable. Yes? No? Thanks help is appreciated

Yep. Just rewrite the program for android and you can install it. No 3rd party stopping you.
