how to change text backgrounds

Looking for a way to change the text background, but I'm not a techie. Is there a app or something? Also, is there a searchable help on the phone itself? Thank you

U can completely customize in handcent...that's what I use

Like Big Ry said, Handcent is the texting app that can make you happy. You can change fonts, backgrounds per user (so each person you text can have their own backgrounds), as well as message style.
