How many email accounts do you have?

Prior to owning a smartphone or having the need to access email in multiple locations, I used Outlook to manage my email. I used POP to access each account and used filters to separate them within my inbox. This worked great for years, but since I got a Droid a few months ago it hasn't been so simple to keep everything in sync.

I currently have 3 active email accounts I want to manage:

ISP (road runner): Online purchases, banking, etc
GMail: Personal/Droid, online accounts
School: not really used since I graduated but still get some stuff there

There are a few problems with this setup. I originally got my ISP address when my parents got road runner almost 10 years ago. If my parents ever drop Road Runner (which is becoming more and more likely) I will lose my RR email. So not a very good idea to have it associated with important things. Second, my Gmail account is used for both personal email and things like signing up for forums. Aside from this leading to spam, the address also has my name in it, which I don't like when using with public/anonymous online accounts.

To keep everything in sync, I am ready to drop Outlook/POP and use GMail exclusively. I also want to keep things separated a bit, so I will need some new accounts. I was thinking of having 3 Gmail accounts, where 2 forward into a main one, connected to my Droid. One account for online transactions, one for personal, and one for public online accounts. The main account can also attach to any other POP accounts (school, ISP) until I stop using them. I do also have a work exchange email but I do not plan on adding that to the mix anytime soon.

So, how many email address do you have and how are they setup?

At last count I had 21 email addresses. I don't check them all from my phone though. I have 1 mail gmail address, and have it set up to check three other of my email addys.

The others I just check when I'm online at the computer.

Wow, what on earth do you do with 21 email accounts??? I have 3. One is work, then I have two personal (Gmail and Cox).

you visit way to many porn sites lol

Addresses or accounts? I have an email address for every site I have ever bought anything from. I create a new address for every site so that if I receive spam, I know who sold me out. In many cases, I put the name of the site as my last name in the email address.

All of this filters into one actual account, and I own the domain and the server so it's going nowhere until I do. I've also got a few other accounts at services I've had for years when I need to correspond with people who still judge your credibility by domain of origin.

As for your dilemma, you'll find that a lot of broadband providers are very generous with whatever@theirdomain.com. In fact, RR didn't stop me as I crossed somewhere in the area of 60ish addresses that I popped in just to see what kind of name realty was still available. RR also lets you aggregate the addresses into a single account. It'd probably work just fine if you set them up on gmail, but check out the YouTube on Google Toilet. If that in any way affects you, you might want to spread your identity around a little. If not, then take another dump and enjoy your shopping.

That I use often (i.e. check daily):
6 gmail
4 seperate hosting accounts each with at least 3 emails
1 yahoo (though I don't often use it)
3 misc emails from other providers

I actively use 3 of my gmail accounts to 'fetch' and sort all the others though so I only have to keep up with 3 in-boxes. Think I average around 250 emails a day... K-9 is the predominant battery user on my device, lol...

There's a few others that I only check once a week or so that I don't bother to have on my Droid.

Good God. Different email for each mistress, eh? :icon_ banana:

I've got two that I use actively and sync on my Droid: my Gmail account and my university email.

haha...i only have 5. Yahoo, Hotmail, and AOL setup through k-9. Outlook through the droid mail....not sure why its still there and not through k-9. and gmail through the seperate gmail app! dang...why is that...lol! =)

Dump taken. To each his own, but I'm not too worried about the google toilet thing, especially given the fact that your ISP already has all that information anyways. I'm smart with where I shop and use one time use virtual credit cards if I feel the need. I probably have 20+ throwaway email accounts registered from over the years that I can use when I know something is spam (or I use 10 Minute Mail). I just want to simplify my useful email, which is pretty much the opposite of what you do
As for my road runner account, its not about how many I can have, but the fact that if my parents close their Time Warner account, I will lose it. Unless of course you're saying they will give you one even if you're not a customer.

EDIT: I don't know how I'd hadn't heard of this yet, but I just found out that you can use aliases with gmail. So you can send mail to username+anything@gmail.com and it will be sent to username@gmail.com. Also, periods within the address do no matter, so those can also be used as identifiers. I was intrigued by your use of a separate email per store but didn't want the hassle of making so many accounts. Problem solved!

3 primary accounts- 2 on the droid

1 gmail- personal
1 hotmail- business transactions/ forums
*********
the non-droid is the work email

2

I am a coupon queen, and you have to sign up on a lot of sites to get the good ones, so I use one email for coupons and FB updates, and then my gmail is my "real" email that I give to people who I actually want/need to hear from.

I have the gmail set up to check the POP account and filter everything into a separate folder. I get audible alerts for the gmail account, but not for the other....
