How do you speed dial on Droid X?

I was able to set up the speed dial so that I can give my contacts a speed dial number, but I can't find out how to use that number to actually accomplish speed dialing. Anyone know how to speed dial? I can only figure out to go to "Favorites," but if I do that, I don't really need to assign a speed dial number. So...how do you speed dial?

Did you ever figure out how to do this? I'm having the same issue with my Droid Razr.

Have you tried press and hold? I press 5 and hold and the phone dials whatever #is saved for 5
