How do I save a picture sent in a text?

I know this has been answered before, but I am asking again because the response from an earlier post didn't help.

I read that I have to hold down on the image until the menu bar pops up. The problem is that when I do that, I doesn't pop up at all!! So is there no way to save it then? I have the first DROID and the pictures were sent to me from a DROID Bionic. Would that have any negative effect seeing as it's newer than my phone? I used to be able to save images when it was sent from an earlier model like mine but now I am having issues.

On my bionic you just long press the image and the menu pops and there is a save option. Press save and it sends it right to the sd

The OP is saying that there is no option to save when long pressing the image.

Have you tried long-pressing the image before clicking on it and making it bigger, while it is still in your message list?
