You mean take a screen shot? If so press the power button and the physical button on the bottom between the two soft keys.

There is also a hand gesture that allows you to take a screen shot.

For the life of me I can't get the power button/home button combo to work. I have to use the hand gesture...which I always look around first to make sure no one is watching.

You have to push the Power and Home buttons simultaneously and hold them for about two seconds. Is that what you are doing?
