I have found that minimizing widgets and home screens greatly improve performance. I have 5 screens but am only using three right now. With LLP and Smart Shortcuts I can access 95% of my likely executions intuitively with one to two gestures. For example,a click of the browser icon opens it, but a swipe of it opens a smart shortcut menu with frequent web apps and shortcuts.

My calendar is Jorte, I like it, its very customizable. I believe its free in the market.
