Hiding apps from app drawer

I was wondering if anyone knows how to hide apps from the drawer but still have them in the background. For example I have lookout security just for the ability to locate the phone if its lost or stolen. If the person who finds it deletes it then it would be pointless. Another one is the stock messaging app. I use chomp therefore I don't need the stock app to be shown in the app drawer but of course its needed. I know go launcher does do that but I wanted to keep the stock launcher.

I know that the stock messaging app can be disabled but I am not sure if that affects the usage of 3rd party apps.

As for hiding apps, I have not found a way (even with Nova Launcher which is similiar to the stock launcher but more customization).

For security app I personally use SeekDroid, which can hide the app icon remotely from a computer. As for messaging I believe you can disable the stock one and that should hide the icon.

QuickPic will hide pics / videos - it is an alternative launcher.

Smart App Protector will password protect the app but not hide it...

Disabling the stock messaging app will not allow texts to be received. Any suggestions for that? Thanks for all suggestions.

Even if you have a 3rd party messenger? Hmmm, guess I'll have to experiment.

edit: sent myself a text and I still got it. I use handcent

I am using Go SMS and just disabled the stock messaging app...at first, it did not work then I went into Go SMS settings and selected "stock app disabled" and it is now sending / receiving.

It would be very nice to be able to hide the app icons in the app drawer. i have apps i put into groups on my home page and i don't need to see the app icons again in the app drawer. would be nice if there as a way to hide them. i use nova launcher but hiding an app/icon is not an option.

If you read the dev's thread over on XDA...it is something that he lists as a possibility (planned feature) so hopefully we get it.

That is for sure...he has several things listed under "possibilities" so it will be good to see what he turns out.
