I've had a droid phone for a little over a year now, having started with the D1. I liked it plenty enough, but was overjoyed when I saw the R2D2. I ordered it right away, passing my D1 to my brother.
My D1 has never been opened up, though I've thought about doing it. My bro doesn't seem to mind how it runs stock, so I may not.
After a few months of enjoying my R2D2, the idea of opening it up and seeing what kind of performance it was capable of without all the verizon and moto stuff bogging it down had finally gotten to me. I searched out in the forums to find rooting info, watched videos, and such a few times over to get acquainted with the task I was about to do.
I was really surprised at how easily it was to acheive, as I followed the instructions of a D2 phone to get my phone rooted. After that, I found the bootstrapper and set out to find a custom ROM that would suit my wants.
I followed the instructions of backing up my original file before beginning the task of flashing APEX 1.4.1 onto my device. For those who wonder, I DID NOT sbf my phone to 2.3.20 before this. I followed instructions and links from the unlockr. It was all so incredibly simple.
I got the new system all set up in my phone and have not noticed any trouble. Thank goodness too, because it was about an hour or so after getting all my stuff set up that I decided to go back into my SD card and remove the installer zips. It was here that I went horribly wrong.
I was curious about the size of the backup file so I went into that folder. when I exited, I scrolled down, CTRL selected the two installer files, and hit DEL, Yes. Wait a minute... 3 files??? NONONONONO!!! Anyway, anyone following that knows just what I did... I now have an R2D2 without a factory image. I joined this forum to hopefully seek a new factory image, if one exists, just in case it should ever be needed. Anyone have any help to offer with that, please PM me, send email, use smoke signals, yell and scream til you turn blue, or any other method that might get my attention. Thanks in advance. --Droidbear79
