Help with Battery Life...& Juice Defender settings

My husband and I both have HTC Desires. We are "old school" users, basically using the phones for calls and texts, and some occassional web surfing.

Our batteries don't get us through the day. We talk on the phones quite a bit as they are our business lines. Please help!!!

We don't want to sync anything. I have auto sync turned off. We don't want to receive our email unless we log in to the program to get it. (yahoo mail). We have brightness turned down and WiFi turned off. I have also installed Power Control to only turn on Sync/Wifi/Brightness when I need it.

I have installed Juice Defender, but don't know what would be best for the settings. Since we don't want to sync email, I wondered if a custom setting will help?

I just checked my battery usage and found:
Android system 33%
Cell Standby 22%
Voice Calls 15%
Phone idle 15%
display 12%
Dialer 3%

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

welcome to the world of htc. great phones, lousy battery life. your battery specs look good, just about what they should be. first thing, are you using a weather widget? in my experience, they are notorious battery hogs. same thing goes for widgets such as facebook. also check for any apps which might be auto updating (again the facebook app updates every 15 min. or so) and change them to never update. they will update when you open the app anyway. i am going to give you link to the desire forum over at our sister site android.net, you might post your question over there and see what others with you paticular model phone are doing to save juice HTC Desire

Unfortunately using a smart phone uses a lot of battery and I can't even give you a recommendation on where to pick up a spare battery that's inexpensive due to the phone you have. Sounds to me like you really don't need a smart phone. I mean when you have to turn everything off to try to save battery for phone calls then maybe you went down the wrong avenue.

My brother is very tech savy and he just got the htc Evo and when I speak of battery life he asks me if I am using my Bluetooth. He also asks is my phone plugged in. What he means is keep your phone plugged in and utilize its Bluetooth capabilities. Bluetooth sound just as good as your phone and has a far longer battery life. That is the future of smartphones and tablets. Keep your phone plugged in as much as possible and use Bluetooth

Get the extended battery as well and carry a spare if you are a powder talker and away from powder outlets .There is also a good you tube guide to juice defender. You have to adapt to the future of communications! You can do it Nikki!
