Help with a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4

My contract ended, I'm going to a prepaid carrier from Verizon.

Do I need to have my phone unlocked because it's an LTE device or can I just put a SIM card in it and change the settings?

Well, i don't really have that to the point idea but I think you are going to need a unlocking code before putting the SIM card inside let just wait a bit more while until other members came up with something more over this ...

If you have a VZ phone, it does not have a sim and can not be used on a GSM network

I'm not 100% sure how it works, but the s4 is a Global phone, meaning you can use it outside of Verizon's network. You would need to get the device unlocked and also the other carriers SIM for it to work I think?

I'm pretty sure just popping in a SIM from another network won't work though as it's locked in Verizon's network.

Actually, Verizon 4g LTE devices use SIM cards. Just their 3g devices don't use SIM cards.

Since you're all the way in Thailand and nowhere near a Verizon (to my knowledge at least), just thought I'd give you a friendly update

hmm... this means I was correct all the time you need to unlock your device before using SIM card !
