HELP PLEASE.. Need to reinstall the OS on my LG Thrill (i'm clueless)

I have a LG Thrill and and Droid X

On both phones now the OS seems to be missing. It will begin to start up but just as it gets to the OS (i believe) it just stops.
Can somebody please tell me how I can reinstall without having to go thru LG or ATT.

I need to reinstall my operating system on both a LG Thrill and a Droid X.

Can somebody tell me how to do this?
I'm totally not smart about this so easy terms would be appreciated.
