Very well aware of it but that icon is not listed there.
This is correct, but this should ONLY show up during and for about 10 minutes AFTER a 911 call is executed. This could have been an accidental call to 911, stopped in time to prevent getting answered, but the phone will still turn on Location. Its purpose is to track a possible victim if they've been able to dial 911 but can't communicate for whatever reason.
On Samsung devices the icon is always there...same on my GS3

Same here... Unless I have a custom rom flashed. But stock, that icon is always there.

I'm rooted/stock and found this hack that worked for me to remove the icon.

Thanks for the hack! My hubby gets irritated by that icon. Now I can flash that and get rid of it for him.
