Help choosing the right phone

My Verizon contract ends in Mid-July, I'm staying for sure, and getting rid of my G'zone Boulder. Been looking at the Droid, but I keep hearing I should wait for the N1 or the Incredible.
It amazes me what the Droid can do. Do the other phones do exactly the same thing? Are they just a different hardware? Are all the "Droid Does" commercials basically for all android phones? I'm new to the smartphone market, just want a heads up so I know what I'm getting into! I didn't really like the physical keyboard on the Droid, but I love all the toys and goodies it has. Standing outside and having your phone point you to where Mars is...that's off the charts cool. I was going to wait for an iPhone to make its way to verizon, but it doesn't look like its happening anytime soon, plus I think the Android market will catch up to the App market real soon! Never have liked Apple so I'd rather not go with the iPhone.

I'm partial to the droid, so I highly recommend it. You can get a great deal on a new one ($20!!), it has such a huge community making roms and themes and other goodies. The droid has hardware that is great and will be keep up with anything out there until you are ready for 4G (LTE) phones to come out.

If you have not had a smartphone then this will do more then you were doing before. So not sure how it could be a "bad" move but it will be an expensive move.

2 year contracts are short in my mind, they seem to pass by pretty dang quick. So worst case your in it for 2 years or shorter if you pay the ETF. No biggy, especially if you do get the phone for $20. Just be ready to pay that extra $30 a month for data (per phone). Only thing I am not liking. It means the wife and I pay over the two years $1,440 more...a single plan would mean $720 or $360 a year. If your okay with then no problem...remember these are luxury devices. Sorry if I sound like a Dad, I just don't want you to get over your head as a lot of people do.

Make no mistakes if the phone is $20 say, that seems affordable to most people. However look at it this way are you ready to either pay the ETF or to pay possible the MSRP of $600 for a new phone! I am very against insurance, but if the ETF sounds like a lot of money to you then by all means get the insurance plan.

Well anyways like I said Yes the Droid is great. My wifes and I first smartphones and we barely use it...but for what I have it has been wonderful to have to check prices on items, to see where I was in the mountains while out riding the dirtbike. Not to mention the ability to save 'My tracks' to share with others through my website. Not to mention the ability to kill time by playing games while waiting for people.
