hdmi out question

i haven't gotten my x yet and i was wondering if i can broadcast anything over hdmi as long as it's not drm. i thought it would be interesting if i could hook it up to a monitor and connect a bluetooth keyboard and mouse. then i could get one of the pc connect apps and pretty much have a fully functioning computer anywhere i go that there's a monitor.

No. It lets you play non DRM videos, not mirror the phone screen.

is there a reason for that? is there any way around it with a rooted phone?

That's just how they made it. It's not a computer with a secondary video out port, it's just there to let you show your pictures and videos that you took with the phone.
