Got my Google Voice Invite today

How does this affect my verizon 1400 minutes? Or does it?

Other than recording my voice mails and saving them like email,
What else can it do?

I chose to use my own number since my wife is usually at home when
I'm working on the road and would not want the home phone to ring
when someone is try to contact me.

I don't see any Invites I can hand out like Gmail used to have.

Google Voice do not start with invites. But ever so often you will get some. When that happens a new option will show up on the left bar.

Some good advice there, I'm using my own number so that shouldn't happen.
